Jonah's 1st day of Preschool

He did it! Jonah started New Hope Preschool on Tuesday morning. The first day was only an hour, just to get the children comfortable with the room and with out their mommies. Thankfully Rachel had hannah that morning so I could focus on the task at hand... Jonah was all smiles until one little boy began losing it as his mom tried to slip out. I tried to calm him and reassure him that I'd be back and he was going to have a wonderful time. That didn't go over so well...I finally had to just say, 'I love you and will see you in just a bit' and run out the door. As I looked back, I saw Lynn, the wonderful school director basically pinning him against her body as he cried and went nuts. I stood in the hallway with tears streaming down my cheeks just praying that he would calm down enough for her to let him down and enjoy the next 45 minutes. Lynn peaked out to see if I was still there and said that jonah had calmed down and promises no more crying if he had his mickey mouse...."please tell me he's in the car," she said. As I ran out to my car, I was thinking the same thing...please be in the car!!! Thank the Lord, b/c mickey was on the floor and saved the day! He enjoyed the rest of the hour and shared a happy meal with hannah and abby when it was all over!

Today was our second day and we went equipped with mickey and his "soft blankie." When the teachers opened the classroom door, he walked right in with a friend, holding his blankie and leaving mickey mouse in his backpack as a back up plan. He didn't even turn back! WHOO HOO! He said they read "llama, llama, played outside on the bikes, he had a job which was clean up toy duty, ate a snack and played with his friends. He even knows one of the teachers names...Mrs Seeback. It's Mrs. Sivak but I'll take it!

Hannah and I had 2 1/2 hours to ourselves which doesn't happen very often. I do look forward to spending more one on one with her. She must have said, "jonah" a thousand times while he was away. We came home and went for a run...sure made me realize how much my stroller needs a tune up. With out jonah's 36 lbs on the one side, it rattled like a tank!

All in all, God is GOOD and this week was a great start for all of us!

new experiences

It's been busy here...trying lots of new things.

We joined a new gym with a fabulous childcare/fun center in hopes of giving me a little, but much needed child free exercise break during the week. Knowing full well how any form of childcare room (at church, other gyms, etc) goes over with my children, I knew I'd be in for it. But, my motto is "try, try, try, try, try, try again"! So, the first day both children started crying the second we were in the room. No big deal, it's day one....we keep going. I leave them screaming and get upstairs, am on a treadmil and 12 minutes later I hear, "Sarah Trueman to the childcare room, Sarah Trueman to the childcare room," on the p. a. system. Awesome. I head back downstairs and hannah is hysterical b/c she had her hand closed in a door. They gave her a bag of ice, we calmed down a bit and headed home.

TRY, TRY, TRY, TRY, TRY AGAIN

We go back, the kids have friends in the childcare center this time, they'll be much better. Nope. We simply walk toward the room, down a long hallway and both start sobbing. It's like they smell something I don't coming from the room. I hang with them for awhile, try to get them comfy, coax them to play with their friends and then duck out. hannah girl is MELTING down, really melting down which breaks my heart but I go any way. A healthy mom makes a healthy family - RIGHT or am I just making this stuff up now? This time, I get upstairs, pick out my treadmil, step on and reach for the start button. "Sarah Trueman to the childcare center, Sarah Trueman to the childcare center," rings out on the p.a. system. Awesome. Barely 3 mintues. I head back down, this time I find Hannah standing in the middle of a pile of barf. She worked herself up so much that she made herself throw up. It was terrible. Once we got her cleaned up, all of her clothes, shoes and blankie in a trash bag we headed out with her wearing a new dress...an adult size large tshirt from the gym. hmmm.

TRY, TRY, TRY, TRY, TRY AGAIN!

We go back. This time, I don't even bother to wear work out clothes. I have a plan now to simply go in, play with them, make it as much fun as I can, leave for 5 minutes and come back for them hoping they're happy as clams. Reassuring, loving, laughing, playing....we do just that but both sob from the minute they see me head to the door until the moment I came back in. it was only 4 minutes.

So, all in all, I traumatized both of my children for the sake of a little exercise and alone time. At least the gym has a cafe and I was able to bribe them with some pirate's booty afterwards. We'll see what happens next week. Wish me luck.

Jonah went to see the dentist for the first time and did a great job! I would like to thank the Berenstain Bears for all of their help preparing him for the big day. When they asked him to lay down, he did, but on his belly and pretty much refused to turn over. The flatscreen tv playing cartoongs above his chair wasn't even the least bit enticing. But, after a little sweet talking, he flipped over and got pretty comfy. All looked good and thank God for the natural spacing between his teeth, b/c I didn't get in trouble for flossing once a year!

watching some cartoons

look at those pearly whites!
I decided it was time for Hannah to have her first trim up. So, jonah and I take her to the beauty parlor and jonah picks out his favorite chair for her to sit in. She did a great job. Not a single tear. Maybe a little unsure and pouty but she was a real trooper! The best part about it was the pink balloon at the end.

"you're going to do what?"

still not too sure about this so called hair cut

a side pony and a blow dry =

one happy little girl!
