Jonah packs for Mimi and Papa's house...

I hung up the phone today after talking to my mom and Jonah asked me to get his "pack-pack"(aka back pack) out because he needed to pack for Mimi and Papa's house. "Oh, that sounds like a good idea, are you going to spend the night at their house tonight?" He says, "yes, I go nigh night at mimi and papa's house."

So, I get out all 3 of his "pack packs" and ask what he needs to bring. He begins listing all of the items he needs, gathering them through out the house and piling them up in the front hall.

See exhibit A.

Exhibit A

Contents include: 1 pillow, 1 pair of jammies, 1 pair of snow pants, 3 books, 1 1/2 empty gallon of skim milk, 4 diapers, 1 pack of wipes, 1 pair of cowboy pants and 1 fancy telephone for emergencies.

Thank goodness he got hungry for dinner and abandoned the whole idea b/c I wasn't sure how I was going to break the news to him that we were staying home tonight!

Let's go SLEDDING...

oh wait, we don't have a sled AND all of columbus is sold out of sleds. Hmmm, what's a family to do? Well, I challenged Doug to a little friendly competition (anything for the children, right?). We each had 20 minutes to create a sled out of anything we had in the house and Jonah would determine who created the best sled once we tested them out on a nearby hill. I must say that the first few minutes were absolutely hysterical! Doug and I pushed and shoved our way to the garage and basement trying to get our hands on plastic, duct tape, cardboard scraps, any thing that just might slide.
When the microwave timer rang at the end of 20 minutes, we had these fine sledding specimans!

Doug's "Big Doggy"
created from the tray of bella's dog crate, a box, some ribbon and duct tape - he may have even used a drill (but I think that was just to intimidate me)

My "Super Fast, Light as a Feather Sledding Seat"
made of a chair pad, some plastic, duct tape and bella's leash

My second sled, "Nothing but Friction"
created from children's skis, a tupperware box lid, a seat cushion and lots and lots of saranwrap for added resistance.

doug and jonah suiting up for their first run....

I hope someone had a speed clock b/c I was flying on this one!

Ok, so my ski sled didn't get me anywhere but my lightweight cushion took first place for distance. It did only manage to get one run b/c the duct tape was worthless once it got cold.
Doug's big doggy won overall for it's durability and speed - must have been the vegetable oil he was applying to the bottom - HA!
All in all, we gave ourselves (and our children) a good laugh! Next year, we'll buy some sleds the minute we see them in the stores!
Happy Sledding!
